My big fat gypsy wedding

I have a friend that recently got engaged and is going slightly wedding crazy, its so cute every little tiny detail is being looked at, researched and research before any final commitments are made. She has decided to go against the traditional white or ivory dress and has opted for a deep red shade, which will really will suit her and bring a few gasps of shock when she walks down the isle (which will be amusing).
Anyhoo all this wedding talk with her couldn't come at a better time, especially as we have just recently had  my big fat gypsy wedding on TV. If your living in the UK and haven't seen this program you have really missed out. It is complete craziness what these girls dresses are like. . . they are HUGE, to say the least. Some of the dresses had atleast 20+ petticoats under them and even battery operated lights and moving butterflies! They really must pay hundreds and thousands for their dresses, even the guests outfits are crazy. I'm not going to lie its extremely tacky in my eyes (pretty positive my friend wont go down this path on her special day lol) but as long as someone is happy and that's what they want who am I or anyone else to judge huh.

It was quite scary to hear how traditional the gypsy culture lived, some aspects of it were lovely where as others were a little upsetting. The girls above left me with a little lump in my throat, they are cousins and have been best friends since they were little and have spent almost every single day together. But the traditional gypsy wife role that a young woman takes when married does not allow her to spend much if any time with friends. It was just a little sad that these two girls will have to detach themselves from one an another.

  1. I find this programme so difficult to watch because on one hand, I'm so entertained by the whole prospect of the gypsy lifestyle, and they've made it laughable, but on the other just as you say, this is someone's culture...it's their life and to laugh at it seems so unfair. It just makes me sad that so many of the girls seem soooo upset about their future life - i feel so sorry for them!
